Investing and Poker ??? Are They Related?

Every trader would like to become a professional. Every new trader must learn as there is hardly any other way to become professional. And sooner or later every trader begins to compare trading along with other businesses to get some valuable ideas or techniques. Poker is usually when compared with trading. Many people point out that poker is just like trading. I have experience with both fields. And I need to write my opinion about this question.
Trading can be a serious business. And to decide whether it is comparable to poker or otherwise we have to compare trading with poker. What is similar and what is different?
The first along with the biggest similarity is in poker as well as in trading our salary is not guaranteed. It is rather difficult to get money for any beginner. Trading and poker are serious businesses. But many individuals take into account that these businesses can provide them quick money. Many people don't understand neither mechanisms nor rules of such areas. I know lots of people who started trading and lose money inside a two weeks. I know a lot of people who started playing poker as well as lose all the money. They thought that they'd become rich in the several months. And such thoughts will not likely cause you to be successful trader or player. In this regard poker and trading are extremely similar.
In trading along with poker we need to cope with probabilities. But probabilities in poker might be counted. Though your estimation of poker probabilities is dependant on insufficient information you'll be able to decide whether your actions are profitable or otherwise not. It is difficult but it is possible.
It is a lot more difficult to estimate probabilities in trading. You must understand trends and identify trends correctly; you must learn movements in the market. And you have no numbers. You can not point out that you have as an example 56% to win money in current trade. Moreover each trader estimates the marketplace differently. One trader can point out that current market is great but other trader can point out that the same market in the same time is detrimental for him. And both might be right since they can have different trading strategies.
The biggest difference between trading read more and poker is if you play poker you're taking an obvious amount at the table. You know that if you have $1000 at the table you will not ever loose greater than this $1000. You can not lose more fat money than you've at the table. In trading it is possible to lose all of your money during one trade. You need to cut your loses yourself. And it is essentially the most difficult thing in trading for many people.
The greatest trader of most times Jesse Lauriston Livermore played poker. We can read about it fact in “Reminiscences of a Stock Operator” by Edwin Lefevre. Richard Smitten is yet another famous author who wrote about Livermore. Both authors wrote that Jesse Lauriston Livermore liked to try out poker regarding his friends. And he played poker well.
After reading this many traders can say: “Hmmm… If Livermore played poker called the greatest trader I should start playing too and definately will end up being the greatest trader as well”. But as I think there is no direct correlation between your trading and poker skills.
Poker and trading have similar laws. But it does not necessarily mean you will be good trader after success in poker or good poker player after success in trading. Yes, these areas resemble nonetheless they require different skills. Anyway if you are a trader you can always try to experience poker and choose, can it be just like trading you aren't. Your own opinion is often more valuable in your case.
